Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi returns to Tripoli two years ago after being given three months to live.
LOCKERBIE, SCOTLAND, UK. REUTERS ARCHIVE - Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi was alive on Saturday (August 20) two years after he was released on compassionate grounds to Libya and given three months to live.
The Scottish government said the bomber's release has been vindicated, despite the 'terminal cancer patient' still being alive.Two US Senators have demanded the extradition of the Lockerbie bomber from Libya, on the second anniversary of his release from prison in Scotland.
New Jersey senators Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg urged the rebel-led National Transitional Council to send al-Megrahi to the US.
Al-Megrahi was jailed in 2001 for the bombing of Pan Am flight 103 in 1988.
Al-Megrahi is the only man convicted of the attack on the flight which killed 270 people, mostly Americans, when it exploded over the Scottish town of Lockerbie.
He was freed on August 20, 2009 after prison doctors said he had prostate cancer and only three months to live.
