As Mubarak steps down, celebrations erupt across Egyptian cities.
ISMAILIA, EGYPT (ORIGINALLY 4:3)(FEBRUARY 11, 2011) REUTERS - Celebrations broke out across Egypt on Friday (February 11) following the fall of President Hosni Mubarak.
In the northern town of Ismailia, crowds cheered and waved Egyptian flags, while in Suez, the armed forces were at the centre of the celebrations.
Both cities have witnessed major clashes over the past few weeks between pro- and anti-government protesters, as well as between protesters with security forces.
On Wednesday, thousands of industrial workers went on strike in Suez, Ismailia and Cairo as part of the protest movement to topple the president.
Mubarak stepped down as president of Egypt on Friday, handing power to the army after 18 days of relentless rallies against poverty, corruption and repression caused support from the armed forces to evaporate.
