A winter storm bringing winds gusting over 100mph and heavy rain strikes the UK, already struggling to cope with record flooding.
WORCESTER, WORCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (FEBRUARY 10, 2014) (ITN) - Large parts of Britain were battered on Wednesday (February 12) by a fierce storm which brought heavy rain and winds gusting up to 100mph.
Power to thousands of homes has been cut off and transport has been disrupted by the hurricane-force winds.
The storm comes as the United Kingdom struggles to cope with record flooding.Sixteen severe flood warnings remain for Berkshire, Surrey and Somerset.
In Worcester, a road behind a pub appeared to have turned into a river, attracting dozens of swans, undeterred by the lashing rain.
Road signs could be seen peeking through the floodwaters.
In Blackpool in Lancashire, poles swayed precariously on the promenade and the wind whipped sand across the beach.
The winds also caused trouble in Anglesey in north Wales, uprooting trees and knocking down power lines.
There are 87,000 homes in Wales without power as a result of the strong winds and military help has been offered to First Minister Carwyn Jones.
Elsewhere in the UK, 8,100 homes are without power in south-west England and 10,000 in the West Midlands are also cut off.
