An Ohio high school is put under lockdown after a shooting that injures four students.
CHARDON, OHIO (FEBRUARY 27) (NBC) - A gunman, believed to be a student, opened fire at a high school east of Cleveland on Monday (February 27, 2012), wounding four students before he was taken into custody, officials said.
Live television images showed emergency vehicles at the school and a scene of urgency as parents rushed to the vicinity to find their children. The students were brought to a nearby elementary school while they waited for their parents to pick them up.
The shooter was believed to be a student, Superintendent Joseph Bergant told local media.
However, law enforcement officials on the scene said they were still collecting evidence and taking statements from witnesses.
One mother praised high school officials for notifying parents of the incident immediately.
"Of course I was scared to death when I heard it," the parent told an NBC reporter.
"They've done a great job of handling the situation," she added.
The four injured students were taken to area hospitals, according to Scott Wilson, spokesman for the regional office of the FBI.
Wilson had no immediate information on the conditions of the victims.
