Next Media - New Zealand’s Mt. Tongariro volcano has erupted, sending a cloud of ash up to 2km into the sky. The eruption comes just days after scientists warned that nearby Mount Ruapehu was showing signs of activity. They said recent temperature measurements taken on the volcano indicate pressure is building up beneath the crater lake on Mount Ruapehu, increasing the likelihood of an eruption within the coming weeks or months. The last eruption of Mt Ruapehu took place in 2007.
