Bin Laden's Residence -- The heavily guarded compound exposed in media limelights
CCTV News - The compound where Osama Bin Laden, the al-Qaida leader, lived in Abbottabad, Pakistan before he was killed last Sunday, instantly came into the media lime lights. The compound is still heavily guarded 48 hours after the decisive U.S. military operation, which left smoked walls and broken iron roof.
Residents living nearby are still fresh in memory of the violent and fierce 40 minutes.
"I heard there was a firefight, but I never thought it was a military operation.
I thought it was just the exercise of Pakistani forces. But later I heard the blast," said Avis Khan, a local resident.
The walls of the compound are different from other walls typical of Bilal Town, as they are over three meters high, with iron wire on top of the wall. But villagers nearby did not believed Bin Laden lived here.
"There are intelligence agents and military facilities here, how could it be the residence of Bin Laden?" remarked one villager.
"I used to see cars parking here, with a lot of people coming in and going out.
But I never saw Bin Laden or other foreigners," said another villager.
Among those who believe this compound was Bin Laden's residence is a correspondent from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "The military compound and such a fortress have been built. It sounds unbelievable. I mean nobody knew that somebody like that was living here. That is why I mean I suppose people can't believe that."
The U.S. military has transferred this compound to the Pakistani police after Bin Laden was killed. The Pakistani police have cordoned off the compound and the streets nearby.
