Cuba marks 55th anniversary of Fidel Castro's triumphant entry into Havana following the victory over dictator Fulgencio Batista.
HAVANA, CUBA (JANUARY 10, 2014) (GVTM TV) - A commemoration ceremony marking the 55th anniversary of the day Fidel Castro rode into Havana following his victory over dictator Fulgencio Batista took place Friday (January 10th).
The solemn affair consisted of music and poems being read by school children to a quiet but very attentive audience. Various dignitaries took the stand to pledge their ongoing allegiance to the revolution.In 1959, Cuba's former leader Fidel Castro declared victory in the eastern province ofSantiago de Cuba. It was from there that Fidel and his men made their way to Havanaamid cheering crowds as they passed through every town, ushering in the Cuban revolution.
Neither President Raul Castro not his brother and former President, eighty-seven-year-old Fidel Castro, were in attendance.
