CAIRO, EGYPT (EGYPT TV) - Mohamed Morsy, Egypt's President-elect, addressed the nation on Sunday (June 24) in his first televised address to the country.
In his speech Morsy addressed the fears, local Egyptians and internationals had expressed regarding the Muslim Brotherhood president.
Election winner Morsy says Egypt will respect the country's commitments in a victory speech broadcast on TV hours after the results were announced.
"We will respect agreements and international law, as well as Egyptian commitments and treaties with the rest of the world," Morsy said.
"We will work to make the principles of Egyptians and its civil identity as well as human values especially freedom and the respect of human rights, the respect of women and family rights as well as children and to do away with any discrimination," Morsy added.
Morsy stressed once again that he will not be leading Egypt in a vacuum and that all the elements that make Egypt what it is today will be equal and have their say as he promised to rebuild and bring back 'glory to Egypt.'
"I will treat all Egyptians the same and respect them equally," Morsy said.
Morsy will quit he Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice party in order to be the president of all Egyptians, 'Muslims and Christians,' he says.
