Pest exterminator ruins new house with pesticides

Next Media - A German couple with a small child were forced to move out of their new house and have it demolished after an amateur pest exterminator overused pesticides. The couple from the town of Burscheid, near Cologne, called the exterminator after discovering an infestation of ants in their basement.

The exterminator went to work, but overused the stipulated doses of pesticides and insecticides when setting off smoke fogging devices. Ventilation shafts within theproperty resulted in the whole house becoming contaminated with a strong, nauseous, chemical odor. An environmental auditor said the place was uninhabitable as poisonous chemicals had seeped deep into the wall and soil.

For safety concerns, the couple decided to look for a new place to live and had the contaminated property demolished.
