The White House on Wednesday released President Barack Obama's original "Certificate of Live Birth" amid persistent questions about his U.S. citizenship. Jon Decker reports.
USA-OBAMA BIRTH CERTIFICATE - Less than an hour after the White House publicly released a copy of his birth certificate from the state of Hawaii, U.S. President Barack Obama called the controversy a "side show" that distracted from important issues such as the federal budget deficit.
U.S. President Barack Obama saying"We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We've got better stuff to do. I've got better stuff to do. We've got big problems to solve. And I'm confident we can solve them, but we're going to have to focus on them -- not on this."
The President's birth certificate clearly indicates that the President was born in the United States -- a Constitutional requirement for any U.S. President.
In New Hampshire, Donald Trump, a possible Republican presidential contender who had raised doubt over the President's birthplace, said he was pleased with the release of the long-form birth certificate.
Donald Trump, possible Republican presidential contender, saying:
"I would want to look at it but I hope it's true so that we can get on to much more important matters, so the press can stop asking me questions. He should have done it a long time ago. Why he didn't do it when the Clintons asked for it, why he didn't do it when everybody else was asking for it, I don't know."
The release of the President's birth certificate comes less than a week after a USA Today poll showed only 38 percent of Americans say Obama definitely was born in the U.S.
