Following their meeting on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund talks, finance ministers of the BRICS group -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- say they are open to providing monetary support to the IMF.
WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES (SEPTEMBER 22, 2011) REUTERS - Major emerging nations on Thursday (September 22) said they are considering providing money to the International Monetary Fund or other global financial bodies to increase their firepower for fighting financial crises.
Finance ministers of the so-called BRICS nations -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- called for the G20 nations to act swiftly and decisively to ease the euro zone debt crisis, the same way they fought the global financial crisis in 2008.
"There should be serious efforts made by the Europeans and other members of the international community and BRIC will be a part of that consensus building. And BRIC will contribute its own might and its own contribution to resolve the crisis along wtih G20 and other members of the international community," India's Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters in a joint news conference with other BRICS finance ministers and central bank chiefs.
