Major storm system in the United States creates treacherous conditions for drivers in Kentucky, brings heavy snow to Indiana, and leaves some residents in Arkansas without power.
PADUCAH, KENTUCKY, UNITED STATES (DECEMBER 26, 2012) (NBC) - A major winter storm system that swept through the southern United States on Christmas Day, continued to wreak havoc as it was expected to shift to the eastern part of the country, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
The NWS said, "a strong winter storm will shift its impacts to the Ohio Valley and interior northeast the next couple of days."On Wednesday (December 26) Paducah, Kentucky saw snow covered roads creating treacherous driving conditions for holiday travelers.
Residents of Indianapolis, Indiana saw freezing temperatures and the NWS predicted 5 to 9 inches (13 to 23 centemetres) of snow for the day.
Further south in Arkansas, locals were digging out after the storm passed, but temperatures remained below freezing and thousands remained without power.
"I like the snow it's beautiful out here, but it's just too cold and the power is out, and I don't like it when the power is out," said Daniel Ganger.
On Tuesday (December 25), the storm spawned tornadoes in several states and killing two people in weather-related road accidents.
