The medical superintendent of Safdarjung hospital says the 23-year-old paramedic student, who was barbarically gang raped in Delhi moving bus, is airlifted to renowned Mount Elizabeth hospital at Singapore for further treatment after her health deteriorates in India.
NEW DELHI, INDIA (DECEMBER 26, 2012) (ANI) - The medical superintendent of Safdarjung hospital, Dr B.D. Athani, said the 23-year-old paramedic student, who was barbarically gang raped in Delhi moving bus, has been airlifted to renowned Mount Elizabeth hospital at Singapore for further treatment.

"With the fortitude and courage, she has survived the after effects of the injury so far, but her condition continues to be critical. Based on the advice of team of doctors, theGovernment of India made arrangements that the patient be shifted in well-equipped air ambulance to a renowned hospital identified by the doctors involving minimum journey, so that she can be provided state-of-art medical treatment that may perhaps stretch to many weeks. Accordingly it has been decided that patient be shifted abroad for further treatment at Mount Elizabeth hospital, Singapore, as advised by the team of doctors," said Athani on Wednesday (December 26) late evening in New Delhi.

Last week, doctors had to remove her gangrenous intestines. During her stay in theIntensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, the victim was administered plasma-rich platelets and blood to keep her vital parameters stable.
Athani also added that the Singapore hospital has the state-of-art facility, which would help in speedy recovery of her health.
"The said hospital has the state-of-art multiple organ transplant facility. The arrangements have also been made for the family to accompany her as the treatment may take longer period," said Athani.
The gang rape victim was under the supervision of team of doctors at Safdarjung hospital since December 16 night incident.
New Delhi has the highest number of sex crimes among India's major cities, with a rape reported on average every 18 hours, according to police figures. A global poll byThomson Reuters Foundation in June found that India was the worst place in the world to be a woman because of high rates of infanticide, child marriage and slavery.
Since last week's rape, the authorities have promised better police patrolling to ensure safety for women returning from work and entertainment districts, more buses at night, and fast-track courts for swift verdicts on cases of rape and sexual assaults.
But protesters view those measures as inadequate and are looking for the government to take a firmer stand on sexual assaults countrywide, most of which go unreported.
Reported rape cases in India have increased by 9.2 percent to 24,206 cases in 2011 from 22,172 the previous year, according to the latest figures from the National Crime Record Bureau.
