Hundreds gather at a vigil outside the hospital in Tucson where Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords is fighting for her life as a photo of the youngest victim of a mass shooting is released.
TUCSON, ARIZONA, UNITED STATES (JANUARY 8, 2011) NBC - Hundreds of people gathered on Saturday night (January 8) in front of the hospital where Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was fighting for her life. Well-wishers wept, hugged and held candles as they came to the lawn in front of Tucson's University Medical Center Hospital.
Giffords, 40, is in critical condition following surgery after being shot in the head at an event she was holding at a shopping center strip mall in Tucson. A memorial to Giffords and the other victims is growing in front of the hospital, with pictures of the congresswoman, flowers, candles and notes of condolence.In total 19 people were shot, six of them killed. A photograph has been released of the youngest person killed, nine year old Christina Taylor Green. The fatalities include 9th circuit of Appeals Judge, John Roll, and a 30 year old aide to Giffords, Gabe Zimmerman. A 22-year-old suspect if in custody for the shootings.
