U.S. President Barack Obama denies there was any cover-up in his administration's response to last year's deadly attack on a U.S. mission in Benghazi.
WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES (MAY 13, 2013) (NBC) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Monday (May 13) there was no cover-up in his administration's response to last year's deadly attack on a U.S. mission in Benghazi.
"The whole issue of talking points, frankly, throughout this process has been a sideshow," Obama said during a joint news conference with British Prime MinisterDavid Cameron.Fielding questions about edited talking points prepared for U.S. Ambassador to theUnited Nations Susan Rice, Obama said the talking points matched the assessments he was getting about Benghazi at the time, denying there was a cover-up and saying Washington's political leaning dishonored the victims in the attack.
"The whole thing defies logic. And the fact that this keeps on getting churned out, frankly, has a lot to do with political motivations," he said.
The assault last Sept. 11 killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
