U.S. President Barack Obama meets with immigration reform demonstrators who have been fasting on the U.S. Capitol Mall.
WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES (NOVEMBER 29, 2013) (RESTRICTED POOL) - U.S. President Barack Obama met on Friday (November 29), with members of "Fast for Families," an immigration advocacy group which has been fasting on the U.S. Capitol Mall to call attention to the push for reform.
Obama was joined by First Lady, Michelle Obama as they spoke informally with members of the group inside a tent on the Mall.According to the White House, 'Fast for Families' immigration activists have been abstaining from all food except water for over two weeks since November 12. They are calling for the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives to take up action on comprehensive immigration reform.
Obama's proposed overhaul of immigration policy has already passed in the Democrat-controlledSenate, but continues to be met with resistance by Republicans in the House.
