French Foreign Minister tells meeting of West African nations that Malian leaders need to take control of country as French and Malian forces await African force deployment
ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST (JANUARY 19, 2013) (REUTERS) - France has called on other world powers to throw money and logistical support behind African armies readying their troops to join French soldiers already fighting al Qaeda-linked militants in Mali.
The appeal came on Saturday (January 19) as African leaders met in Ivory Coast where they are expected to agree on details of a regional mission that is due to take over from the French forces but is short on financing, planning and, according to diplomats, even ammunition.
