UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO - The University of Colorado has released a photograph of the man suspected of killing 12 people at a midnight premiere of the new Batman movie in a suburb of Denver early on Friday (July 20).
Multiple media outlets named the suspect as James Eagan Holmes, 24, though Reuters had not independently confirmed his identity.
In a gas mask and bullet-proof vest, the suspected gunman killed 12 people and wounded 55 others, including children, in the attack. It was during the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" at a mall in the Denver suburb of Aurora.
The University of Colorado Denver said Holmes was in the process of withdrawing from the University of Colorado Denver's graduate program in neurosciences.
Holmes enrolled at the university in June 2011.
