Next Media - Nicola Rutigliano, a 43-years-old police officer, died on Wednesday after shooting himself in the head outside a Carabinieri police station in Triggiano town, in the South of Italy.
He first wrote a death note explaining his financial problems; he then called journalists and the police to inform them of his intention to commit suicide and drove to Triggiano police station. After parking his car outside the station, Rutigliano took his gun, pointed it to his head and fired one shot.
From inside the police station, officers heard the gunshot. When they run outside they found the window of Rutigliano’s car smashed into pieces and the police officer dying inside the vehicle.
They attended him with first-aid treatments and transported him to two different hospitals before he died few hours later.
Investigators say the man was indeed swimming in debts and decided to kill himself shortly after receiving a letter from Equitalia, Italy’s tax-collection agency.
