R Reports - Protesters in Bahrain run as police fire teargas and what witnesses reported was birdshot.
Clashes broke out in villages around the capital Manama on Wednesday, as several hundred activists pressed for democratic reforms.
Demonstrators threw volleys of rocks at security forces across a barbed wire barricade. There were no reports of serious injuries.
Inspired by an Egyptian protest campaign called Tamarrod, or "rebellion", activists are renewing calls for the Sunni Muslim ruling family to loosen the reins on the Shi'ite majority kingdom.
But while the Egyptian opposition was backed by the military, Bahrain's security forces remain loyal to the government.
The state has crushed previous unrest and pledged to "forcefully confront" demonstrators.
