Northern Ireland police investigating dissident republicanism seize a rocket launcher and warhead at a house in West Belfast.
WEST BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND, UNITED KINGDOM (FEBRUARY 27, 2013) (ITN) - Northern Ireland police discovered a rocket launcher and warhead at a house in West Belfast on Tuesday (February 26).
The explosives were seized by officers investigating dissident republicanism, police said, adding the discovery had 'saved lives'.The armed factions opposed to the peace process have been linked to the killing of soldiers, police officers and a prison warder, according to the Press Association.
A Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) spokesman said the weapon systems were 'clearly intended to kill.'
Police have been on high alert for attacks in Northern Ireland.
Forensic officers and police could be seen outside the house in Falls Road in the early hours of Wednesday (February 27). The weapons are to undergo forensic examination.
Earlier this month Irish police intercepted a suspected dissident republican haul of rocket launchers and explosives in County Tipperary which were believed to be en route to Northern Ireland.
