The original coffin of Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspected assassin of U.S. President John F. Kennedy, is to be auctioned in Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES / DALLAS, TEXAS, UNITED STATES -
It's the perfect gift for the JFK-assassination conspiracy junkie who has everything: Lee Harvey Oswald's coffin …
President John F. Kennedy's suspected assassin was buried in the casket for almost 20 years.
Now a Los Angeles auction house is selling the simple pine box. Auctioneer Nate Sanders explains.Nate Sanders, owner of Nate D. Sanders Auctions, saying:
"Lee Harvey Oswald was exhumed in 1981 because of all the conspiracy theorists, those people thought that he was not in the coffin. They thought that maybe there was a body missing, or it might be someone else. So it was exhumed in 1981 and they found that Lee Harvey Oswald was indeed in the coffin."
And since the original coffin suffered severe water damage, Oswald's remains got a new resting place.
The casket is expected to attract plenty of interest.
Nate Sanders, owner of Nate D. Sanders Auctions, saying:
"There's probably thousands of JFK assassination collectors and there's a few high-end assassination collectors, there's a lot of them in Dallas, Texas, a lot of them are domestic and some of them are even international. There's a huge market for anything Oswald or even just plain JFK."
Bidding will open at 1,000 U.S. dollars, but the coffin might prove far more valuable when it comes under the hammer.
