Activists say 85 people have been killed by forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the Damascus suburb of Jdeidet al-Fadel.
SAID TO BE JDEIDET AL-FADEL, DAMASCUS, SYRIA (SAID TO BE APRIL 21, 2013) (SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE) - Syrian forces and militiamen loyal to President Bashar al-Assad killed at least 85 people on Sunday (April 21), including women and children, when they stormed a Damascus suburb after five days of fighting, opposition activists in the area said.
"We documented 85 summarily executed, including 28 shot at a makeshift hospital after Assad's forces went in Jdeidet al-Fadel. We fear that the victims of the massacre are much higher," said Abu Ahmad al-Rabi', an activist in the adjacent district of Jdeidet Artouz. There was no immediate confirmation of the activists' account, although several videos uploaded to social media websites purported to show a number of bodies in body bags.
Reuters cannot independently verify the content of these videos, which were obtained from a social media website.
Syrian authorities have banned most independent media since the uprising began two years ago.
