China-Platform -- Asia's largest offshore oil, gas processing platform begins its floating transportation
China Central Television (CCTV) - Asia's largest offshore oil and gas processing platform began to be floated to a oil and gas field for further construction on Sunday.
The platform Liwan 3-1, with a weight of 30,000 tons, was designed and made by China. It left a wharf in east China's Shandong Province for the South China Sea on Sunday."It's foggy now, and we're waiting for the fog to recede and the sea tide to become high. It's very heavy and is the largest oil and gas processing platform in Asia," said a worker at the wharf.
"Since there's little typhoon this month, we must finish the floating transportation of the platform before the end of this month," said Zhang Can, deputy manager of the Liwan 3-1 platform project.
The giant will arrive at the operation zone in the South China Sea in ten days and will be integrated on May 21 with a jacket that has already been in the South ChinaSea.
"The oil and gas processing platform has a processing capacity of 12 billion cubic meters of gas per year. It's the upper structure, and there's a jacket to support it. The jacket is like a house's foundation, while the platform like a house or plant in which all oil and gas will be processed and transported to the shore for people to use," said Xu Kekuang, engineer of the Liwan 3-1 project.
"It collects oil and gas through submarine pipelines lying 1,500 meters underwater and sends them to the central processing platform through 89-kilometer-long submarine pipelines. After separating and pressuring, the oil and gas will be delivered to the oil and gas terminal 270 kilometers away at the Gaolan Port in Zhuhai for further processing," said Zhang Can.
The process is finished 1,500 meters underwater, which will produce gas and light oil to be sent to Guangdong and Hong Kong, Zhang added.
The oil and gas field in the South China Sea is expected to be put into operation by the end of this year.
