Residents are evacuated from Dubai skyscraper after fire breaks out overnight.
DUBAI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES (SAID TO BE NOVEMBER 17, 2012) ( MONSTILUS YOUTUBE CHANNEL) - A skyscraper has been evacuated in Dubai after fire engulfed part of the 34-storey building in the early hours of Sunday (November 18) morning.
Amateur video uploaded to a social media website purports to show flames leaping from the 34-storey Tamweel Tower, which is part of the Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) development.The company that owns the development, Tamweel, released a statement saying the fire in the mixed-use building was contained with help from the Dubai Civil Defence.
"Our very highest priority is the safety and well-being of the residents. To that end, our staff are on site and have provided transportation and hotel accommodation to any resident who requires such assistance. We remain fully committed to ensuring their well-being," Tamweel Acting Chief Executive Officer Varun Sood said in a written statement.
The company says it will work with authorities to provide updates as to the cause of the blaze.
