Laser show lights up Tahrir Square with anti-government messages to the delight of hundreds of thousands of protesters at the bustling square.
CAIRO, EGYPT (JULY 2, 2013) (REUTERS) - A colourful laser show lit up Tahrir Square on Tuesday (July 2) to loud cheers from hundreds of thousands of anti-government protesters around the now infamous public setting in the heart of Cairo.
Anti-government messages and a symbol of the Muslim crescent and the Christian cross was displayed on the large administrative complex building on the edges of Tahrir."Morsi - Game Over - Out" were among a host of messages displayed in sharp green laser light for the large crowds to absorb.
Mahmoud, the man operating the laser machine from a nearby rooftop, said he felt the move would further highlight what he described as the failings of the present government.
"This idea came to us because we work in this field of laser technology, so we felt we have to express ourselves in this way with our people so we can remove this failed government."
The laser show appeared a couple of hours before President Mohamed Mursi appeared on state TV for the first time since Sunday's (June 30) huge demonstrations and the army ultimatum on Monday (June 1). Mursi appeared to strictly dismiss suggestions of a coup, urging the army and opposition to respect "constitutional legitimacy".
